The Kaleidoscope: The Power Of Enthusiasm

The kaleidoscope: the power of enthusiasm

There are many toys, but some of them seem magical, or at least they have been to us. One is the kaleidoscope, which allows us to see the world in many different shapes and colors. For many it was one of their favorite games. It is quite another story to be able to pronounce his name , this is perhaps less simple. Today, through a Christmas story, we invite you to discover how the power of enthusiasm can help us achieve what seems impossible.

I remember it was

Christmas

, the house was full of decorations,

 mostly

hanging from the tree that almost touched the ceiling, adorned with colored balls and golden streamers; they made him eye-catching in my eyes, the eyes of a six-year-old girl who firmly believed in magic, in Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men.

Footsteps in the snow

The perfect gift

I went out for a walk with my father, we went to see some toys.  As soon as I saw it it was clear to me that just that and no one else was to be my Christmas present.  It was a simple tube with a family of bears drawn on it celebrating Christmas, the cubs kept the decorations for the tree: colored balls, stars full of light, angels …

At that time the bear was my favorite animal, I slept in pajamas with teddy bears, I had a shirt with a picture of a real bear and hundreds of teddy bears of all kinds, colors and sizes. From brown bear to polar bear.  The white polar bear, which lived on ice and was my absolute favorite among bears.  Up to bears with singular colors, such as a pink bear, or even a bear with a red bow tie with white polka dots.

But that tube didn’t catch my attention just for the bears: looking into it, it was possible to see different shapes. Which was strange and beautiful to me. Stars that turned into flowers, flowers that turned into circles, circles into rhombuses and so on up to an infinity of mixtures of shapes and colors, so different and the same.  Looking through that tube made me feel capable of traveling

in

other worlds in which to experience a thousand adventures in a single moment .

Christmas Gifts

The kaleidoscope

I insisted on convincing my

father

that that was my gift :

-Daddy, daddy, I want this tube with the cute bears.

-The kaleidoscope? – my father answered with a broad smile.

-The calidocosa … – I said making a face, typical of when something aroused my hungry curiosity.

-We’ll ask Santa Claus, but you’ll have to learn how to say it .- My father said laughing.

Back home, I did not stop trying (goblet, goblet, calidopia, caledocope, caledospo …) there was no way to do it.  My

brother

Major laughed at all the words I had invented and insisted: KALEIDOSCOPE. I tried to learn its name, but failing to do so I thought that Santa Claus would not bring it to me.

Finally there came

Vigil

Christmas and as I opened the presents I felt a little sad. I was still trying to pronounce the name of the gift I wanted, but besides “calei…” I couldn’t get another letter right. I opened my first gift, convinced that my tube with the cute bears would not be there. Instead I didn’t find him in front of me.  It was the gift I wanted, so I felt such emotion that, without thinking about it, I said: – The KALEIDOSCOPE I wanted.

Every

effort

has its reward, the little girl in this Christmas story was about to lose faith in receiving the gift she wanted so much, because despite her insistence the word kaleidoscope resisted her. But it was receiving the gift and feeling so much joy that allowed her, with almost no effort, to finally say the word. She will certainly never forget how to pronounce the word kaleidoscope, just as she will never forget that Christmas or what it meant to her.
